Good Secure Jobs.
Queenslanders deserve good secure jobs.
Steven Miles believes all Queenslanders deserve the dignity of work and an economy that delivers for working people.
The unemployment rate is now under 5% and Queensland has the strongest period of jobs growth on record since December last year averaging over 7,900 jobs per month.
We will continue to back jobs by investing in services and delivering a Big Build of more housing, hospital beds, classrooms, roads, rail and energy with our record funding of $107.3 billion over four years.
In this year alone, the Big Build is supporting more than 72,000 jobs including 50,000 jobs outside greater Brisbane.
Backing the Big Build and new frontline workers, Steven Miles has released the Queensland Skills Strategy, investing more than $370 million over four years in the training system to enable Queenslanders to take on better paid jobs.
Our Record.
Steven Miles wants a fair income for all Queenslanders, and he backs the 4.6% wage rises over the past year in Queensland.
Steven Miles and Labor have welcomed the lowest unemployment rates on record across Queensland and in Cairns, Townsville, Central Queensland, and Wide Bay.
Under the Labor government, over 630,000 more Queenslanders are in the workplace, and over 390,000 more Queenslanders are getting jobs in the health-led recovery from the pandemic.
The Labor Government has employed 50,238 more frontline workers we need, including:
-
18,401 more nurses and midwives
-
5,320 more doctors
-
7,731 more health practitioners
-
1,085 more disability support workers
-
6,200 more teachers
-
2,500 more teacher aides
-
392 more TAFE teachers and tutors.
-
1,751 more ambulance officers
-
2,045 more firefighters
-
676 more police
-
2,104 more child safety case workers
-
1,144 more youth and case workers
-
4,807 more correction officers
This is all at risk under the LNP.
The LNP sacked over 14,000 public servants including teachers, teacher aides, nurses, doctors, and other health workers, police, firefighters, and other frontline workers.
The LNP cut infrastructure investment by 30% which if repeated would mean cutting 21,600 workers.
The LNP left Queensland’s economy in a technical recession by cutting, sacking and selling.
As the national economy slows, now is not the time to cut jobs and the Big Build.
Queensland’s economy is continuing to grow twice as fast as the nation because of the Queensland Government’s investment in services and infrastructure.
Under the LNP, Queensland had 8.94% of national jobs growth, less than half our population share, growing to 23.97% since Steven Miles became Premier.
Only a Miles Labor Government can be trusted to keep Queenslanders working, learning, safe and healthy.
If elected, a Miles Labor Government will keep Queenslanders working.
Steven Miles has an economic plan for tens of thousands more Queenslanders to get good, well paid jobs.
Only Steven Miles and Labor will deliver the Big Build for new energy infrastructure, new hospitals and major hospital expansions, and new schools, roads and railway.
No other party can, will, or wants to make this economic plan happen.
