The Miles Labor Government marked the start of the 2024 election campaign in Cairns today where they launched Labor’s economic plan for Queensland prioritising jobs and cost of living support for Queenslanders. The Miles Labor Government has kicked off its campaign from Cairns today, launching Labor’s economic plan for Queensland.

To mark the start of the 2024 election campaign Premier Steven Miles has outlined a plan for economic growth and cost of living support.

The plan will deliver a more diverse economy with more jobs, better jobs and higher wages.

The Budget, Economy and Tax policy will highlight the vital role regional infrastructure investment plays in the Miles Labor Government’s plans.

The Policy guarantees no new or increased taxes on the people of Queensland or on small and medium-sized businesses.

The Policy also guarantees no decrease in coal royalty tiers, while delivering budget operating surpluses across the economic cycle.

There is a continued focus on delivering the state’s Big Build while maintaining lower debt than New South Wales and Victoria, and maintaining a lower tax burden than the rest of Australia.

Quotes attributable to Premier Steven Miles:

“Our plan will deliver a future with a more diverse economy because that means more jobs, better jobs and higher wages across more industries.

“Because in the long run, it is our economic plan that allows us to address the cost of living.

“Our record $11 billion cost of living package we delivered this year was only possible because of our strong economic growth, our strong budget position, our public ownership of energy assets and our progressive coal royalties.

“We are creating the jobs, building the infrastructure and delivering for every person that lives in Queensland, because that’s what matters.”

Quotes attributable to Deputy Premier and Treasurer Cameron Dick:

“The hallmark of the Miles Labor Government is about doing what matters for Queenslanders, and doing it in an open and transparent way.

“That’s why we are laying our cards on the table with our Budget, Economic and Tax Policy.

“This policy continues the work of our economic plan, that has delivered record low unemployment and record high cost-of-living relief for Queenslanders.

“Recent elections across Australia have shown that large numbers of voters cast their ballots well before election day.

“That’s why we are putting our economic policy out now.

“And it’s why David Crisafulli must be open and upfront with Queenslanders about his long-promised tax policy and debt reduction plan before early voting starts.”
